Volkswagen's sales surge globally in H1

(MENAFN) The German automobile Volkswagen sales increased 6 percent worldwide in the first half of the year over a year ago with a strong demand from Europe and China, Xinhua reported.

In the January-June period, the company sold 4.97 million vehicles to global customers, 5.9 percent more than the first half of 2013, the Wolfsburg-based Volkswagen Group said.

The biggest sales volume was recorded in the Asia-Pacific region with 2 million vehicles. China remained Volkswagen's largest single market with a delivery of 1.81 million units, and saw an annual growth of 17.5 percent.

"The Volkswagen Group showed satisfactory development in the first half year even though market conditions were at times difficult," said Volkswagen's sales chief.
