S. KoreaNew Zealand Foreign Ministers' Meeting Held in Seoul

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Oul July 10 (QNA) - South Korea's Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se has expressed grave concern over Japan's move to strengthen its national security posture.

Yun shared the concern in a meeting with New Zealand's Foreign Minister Murray McCully in Seoul on Wednesday. He stressed any changes in defense and security policies by Japan should be carried out in a transparent manner to dispel concerns among neighboring countries according to Korea's (KBS WORLD) website.

McCully replied that New Zealand's Prime Minister John Key had also stressed the importance of transparency and building trust during a summit earlier on Monday with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Yun then called for New Zealand's active role as a member of the Korean Peninsula Club a network of 21 foreign missions that handle affairs related to both Koreas from Seoul. He noted the contradictory situation with North Korea as Pyongyang has shown signs of appeasement while still raising military tensions.

In response McCully said his country actively supports Seoul's Korean Peninsula trust-building process.

South Korea's Foreign Ministry said the two ministers also agreed to work toward the swift conclusion of bilateral free trade talks. (QNA)
