(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The European Union (EU) has granted Lebanon two million euros to improve healthcare services in this Arab country.
The grant was announced in a celebration held on Wednesday here in the presence of Lebanon's Health Minister Wael Abou Faour, the EU ambassador Angelina Eichhorst in Lebanon and the UN representative Nint Kelly.
World Health Organization (WHO) Representative in Lebanon Dr. Alissar Rady, pointed out that the project will be carried out by the Lebanese government in conjunction with the WHO, the UNICEF, the International Relief and Development (IRD) and the "International Alert".
"The project aims to relieve congestion between Syrian refugees and Lebanon society resulting from overpopulation by boosting the capacity of Ministry of Health to offer better healthcare for more than million people," Rady said.
She added that eight governmental medical laboratories will be provided with medical equipment and personnel to control disease spread.
About 180 healthcare centers in Lebanon will also benefit from the project as they will be provided with medical equipment and medicine for chronic diseases and vaccines.
Lebanon hosts more than 1.5 million Syrian refugees in addition to 75,000 Palestinian refugees from Syria.
