Egypt Pres., UN chief discuss Israeli-Palestinian hostilities


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Egyptian President Abdulfattah El-Sisi on Wednesday discussed with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon the latest developments in the Palestinian territories and the mounting Israeli-Palestinian hostilities.

The two sides highlighted the importance of deescalating the tension and halting the military measures, according to a statement by the Egyptian presidency.

They agreed to work for preventing the situation from sliding into a vicious cycle of violence which could lead only to loss of more lives, the statement said.

They also agreed to encourage Israeli and the Palestinian sides to reach truce and adopt the necessary measures for helping the civilian population in Gaza Strip.

Egypt is conducting intensive contacts with both sides to prevent further escalation of the conflict, the statement added.
