(MENAFN - Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY July 7 (KUNA): The Cabinet condemned the illegally-held July 4 angry demonstrations which occurred across two residential areas during their weekly meeting at Seif Palace on Monday. Ministers were briefed on the recent unlawful acts namely chaos and destruction caused to public property and fear caused amongst the public State Minister for Cabinet Affairs and acting Justice Minister Sheikh Mohammad Abdallah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah said in a statement.
The briefing delivered by Deputy Premier Interior Minister and acting Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah highlighted the details of the incident and the steps taken by the Interior Ministry which were legal and were aimed at ensuring safety and security. The Cabinet underlined that 'under the Constitution public gatherings are permitted if held under the conditions and circumstances depicted in law - that the tools and means of the meeting are peaceful and do not run counter to morals.' The statement reiterated 'the advice and wise directions of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah most recently his address to the nation on June 25 2014.'
According to the statement His Highness the Amir had said that 'protecting the security and sovereignty of Kuwait is a sacred duty that should not be underestimated. It is an honour that should be upheld cooperatively by each and every national. 'It is prohibited to impinge the judiciary or assault public authorities and nobody is above the law.
The law is applicable to all and will be applied forcefully without delay or lax. Respecting the law and the constitution is the duty of all.' The Cabinet went on to mention that it 'decries and condemns all acts of lawlessness which are rejected and denounced by all' describing them as 'strange irresponsible and unfamiliar amongst the Kuwaiti society and thus cause damage to the civilised image of Kuwait.' The ministers went on to express gratitude for the role of local security forces headed by Deputy Premier and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad Khaled Al-Hamad Al- Sabah who carried out 'loyal efforts that were evident in the protection of their nation's security according to the constitution and rule of law. Their duty was carried out 'in discipline wisdom determination and dedication to restraint.
They were irresponsive to provocations and this was a cause for praise and acclaimby all nationals' added the statement. The Cabinet reiterated the importance of respecting the rule of law and safeguarding the security of the nation and its public order among nationals particularly the youth. It called on them not to succumb to sedition which it said 'only leads to destruction and regret.'
