US reaffirms Germany as ally amid spy allegations

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Amid a budding scandal over a possible US informant in the German intelligence service, State Department Spokesperson Jen Psaki told reporters Monday that "Germany is an extremely important partner." Psaki affirmed, "It's a pending German law enforcement case, as she (Chancellor Angela Merkel) may have mentioned as well. I'm not going to speak to it much further than to say that we have had decades of a partnership on tough issues." US Ambassador to Germany John Emerson was also called to the German Foreign Ministry office to meet with them on the recent reports of a spy sending German information to the US. Psaki noted, "Our dialogue will continue on this and every other issue we work together on, but I'm not going to outline that publicly." She stressed, "We have an ongoing dialogue with Germany about a range of issues, and as with any case, we're happy to discuss these issues if they plan to raise them." The two countries are currently working in the P5+1 negotiations in Vienna and Psaki additionally highlighted, "We have an important economic dialogue with Germany. The secretary (of state John Kerry) has been there several times."
