Italian FM, Ukrainian PM discuss developments in Kiev

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Italian Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini discussed in Kiev on Monday with Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk ways to normalize the situation in east Ukraine.

Upon arrival in Kiev, Russian news agency (INTERFAX) quoted the Italian minister as saying she "looks forward to broker a ceasefire and take confidence-building measures that allow for a decrease in tensions and accompany reforms in Ukraine." For his part, Yatsenyuk stressed commitment by Ukraine to work with the European Union (EU) and implement the partnership agreement signed in Brussels recently.

Mogherini expected to visit Moscow later and meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Mogherini's visit comes as the Ukrainian government battles pro-Russian forces in the east of the country, after a fragile ceasefire ended last week following further clashes.
