Over 6,800 Omanis join private sector till May this year NCSI


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The latest figures released by the National Center of Statistics and Information (NCSI) show that efforts towards achieving Omanisation targets are bearing fruit with 6,809 more Omanis joining the private sector.

The number till May-end this year was 188,669 employees, compared to 181,860 at the end of 2013, a rise of 3.7 per cent.

The report, detailing insured and active Omanis working in the private sector, also revealed a decline in those receiving basic salaries between RO225 and RO300.

The number of Omani private sector employees receiving a basic salary of less than RO300 declined by three per cent or 3,519 from December 2013, bringing the figure to 115,267 at the end of May 2014.

Meanwhile, those receiving a basic salary in the RO300-RO400 range increased by 6,061 or 23.5 per cent, to reach a total of 31,868.

There was a 14.8 per cent rise in Omanis in the private sector earning a basic salary of RO700-800 at the end of May 2014, compared to the December 2013 figure.

Meanwhile, the total number of Omanis in the private sector receiving a basic salary within the RO1,000-RO2,000 range increased to 6,853 till the end of May, representing an increase of 15.6 per cent when compared to the 2013-end figure.

Those receiving a basic salary of more than RO2,000 increased by 15 per cent compared to the December 2013 figure, totalling 2,508 employees.

Regarding the number of private sector employees in governorates, the report revealed that Muscat recorded an increase of 2,999 employees or 4.4  per cent against  December 2013, totalling 70,692 employees.

In second place was North Batinah with a total of 33,183 employees in May 2014 compared to 31,500 in December 2013.
