Anil Rathod Rajkot’s middle-aged BJP municipal councillor and former general secretary of the city unit has been arrested for assaulting Jaishree Dodia a female councillor of his party after she had a heated argument in the presence of other partymen.

Dodia who was hospitalised after the incident told the police that Rathod slapped her several times and even hit her on the stomach. Rathod admitted he had assaulted his party colleague but accused her of provoking him by refusing to toe the party line.

A senior officer in the office of Gujarat’s director-general of police told Khaleej Times that Rathod had been booked for “voluntarily causing hurt and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace”.

In another incident a group of headstrong volunteers of the BJP’s student wing the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad stormed into the Gujarat University building in Ahmedabad abused a cashier “for teasing female staff” and thrashed him in front of other employees who then instantly went on a flash strike.
