Omani gets life term in Lebanon for joiningmilitant group


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) An Omani national, MKJ, was sentenced to rigorous life in imprisonment by the Lebanese Judicial Council on Friday after being convicted of joining a banned militant group in 2006 and fighting against the Lebanese Army.


According to a report by  the Lebanese newspaper, The Daily Star, MKJ arrived in the country with two friends, who subsequently died during clashes with the army. MKJ had joined the now disbanded Fatah al Islam group and in 2007 he was reportedly injured while fighting in the Nahr al Bared refugee camp.


Despite initially escaping military sweeps he was subsequently arrested after the fighting ended.
