(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) More than 1,000 participants from over 40 countries attended the Geoinformatics Forum Salzburg (GI_Forum) and the German-language Applied Geoinformatics (AGIT) expo which took place in Salzburg, Austria from July 1 to 4.
A press release stated that for the second time, GUtech was one of the strategic sponsors of the GI_Forum, which is one of the leading conferences in Geographic Information Science and Technology (GIS).
''The main goal of this annual GI_Forum is to exchange information on the latest trends in technological, analytical, societal and educational fields, according to the theme of the conference Geospatial Innovation for Society,'' Professor Dr Adrijana Car, associate professor at the Department of Sustainable Tourism and Regional Development of GUtech and Chair of the GI_Forum Programme Committee was quoted in the release as saying. She delivered a lecture on GIS management in vulnerable environments, based on her research on Galapagos Islands beginning of this year.
GUtech was represented through presentations conducted by Professor Adrijana and her students.
GIS is applied in many areas such as the protection of natural resources, health and environment, risk management, and sustainable management of energy and infrastructure, where geographical data needs to be stored, managed and analysed.
The conference had a number of keynote sessions, paper and poster presentations, workshops, software demos and exhibition. One of the keynote speakers was Professor Dr Anthony Robinson of Pennsylvania State University who gave a talk on Expanding the Reach of Geospatial Education'.
