Leading consumer electronics retailer emax a part of the landmark group reported a steep jump in sales of television sets since mid-june amid the 2014 fifa world cup fever.

“we have so far witnessed a 73 per cent increase in our tv sales compared with last year and a 28 per cent increase over last month. it is the season for panels and uhd [ultra-high definition] leds have clearly taken the lead which would indicate that they will be the trend in the future” said neelesh bhatnagar chief executive officer of emax.

The golden boots promotion campaign covering the uae saudi arabia oman qatar and bahrain seeks to offer a novel shopping experience to consumers he said. shoppers need to make a minimum purchase of dh250 (or equivalent local currency) at any emax store in the target markets to qualify for the draw which will be held in mid-july.

This campaign is valid across all product categories at all emax stores in the target markets said bhatnagar.

He said the uae consumer electronics market is geared for remarkable growth until 2020 when the world expo would offer a game-changing opportunity for the local and regional retail sector.

Last year emax unveiled a dh300 million expansion plan that would see the retail giant doubling its turnover to dh4 billion and increasing sales outlets to 100 across the gulf in three years. emax which has 50 showrooms in the uae and other gcc countries at present will be adding another 52 outlets over three year as part of the expansion drive.

Emax’s parent company the landmark group also comprises community mall operator oasis centre.

Bhatnagar who is also a director of oasis centre said the mall is on track to open seven more outlets in the gcc in 15 months and expects to boost its annual turnover to dh1 billion from dh800 million.

By expanding the oasis network from five malls to 12 by the second half of 2015 the operator will consolidate its presence in the gcc. five of the new malls will be in saudi arabia while sharjah and muscat will each have one new mall.
