Kerala to set up CyberDome to combat crimes


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The kerala government has decided to set up a high-tech cyber security centre in the state capital of trivandrum to deal with the rising cyber crimes

The centre to be called cyberdome is proposed to be set up at technopark the state’s premier information technology (it) hub on a public-private partnership mode with all the modern tools to counter the social evil.This was disclosed by home minister ramesh chennithala while replying to a calling attention motion on the need to frame strong investigation machinery to combat cyber crimes and laws to ensure severe punishment to the perpetrators of the crime.V p sajeendran of the congress who moved the calling attention motion pointed out the police at present did not have the strength and resources to handle these sorts of crimes and hence the perpetrators continued to harass women and children.A senior police officer said that the proposed centre would help the law enforcement agency to tide over new challenges in cyber security and handle cyber crimes effectively. the task has become challenging because the cyber-criminals always change their tactics and update their skills to avoid detection.The proposed cyberdome is envisaged as a primary monitoring unit for the internet and a separate wing will be created for this purpose. they will be responsible to monitor the net and track the crimes especially terror activities.The cyberdome will function in cooperation with the software firms at the technopark. while the hardware for the centre will be provided by the state police department the establishment costs will be shared by the partners. an “ultra modern police control room” will be part of the cyberdome.The cyberdome will also be the nodal centre for policing the social networking sites and also for running awareness campaigns by the police over the net. an it firm has already approached the police to do this for free.The education department has also agreed to join the campaign. it has proposed to set up a “stop cyber crime army” with the help of volunteers of the national service scheme (nss). they will be provided special training to conduct cyber-safety awareness classes in banks clubs libraries and resident associations in their areas.Newskhaleejtimes.com
