Many corporates are not taking part in the social initiatives the uae undertakes the latest one being the uae water aid campaign launched by his highness shaikh mohammed bin rashid al maktoum vice-president and prime minister of the uae and ruler of dubai say federal national council (fnc) members.“it is important for these companies to participate in such initiatives which enable them to give back to society in exchange for the infrastructure and security accorded to them by the country” said ahmed al jarwan speaker of the arab parliament and fnc member.Companies which do not participate in such initiatives should be contacted by the chamber of commerce and the ministry of economy he said.This move according to him will help the companies be in the loop about the various social activities launched by the country.Al jarwan suggested forming a ‘donors’ club’ to identify the donations given by companies in serving the uae in humanitarian initiatives.Ahmed abdul malik ahli another fnc member said some traders donate on a personal basis and not in the name of their companies. many companies he said “regrettably” don’t play any humanitarian role in society.“ramadan is a holy month and people and companies alike should contribute to social initiatives” he said.Ahli proposed that there should be incentives for companies to contribute to society.“they could for instance get some concessions if they participate in a humanitarian initiative.”Al jarwan said the media should help to put the spotlight on companies which support humanitarian causes. he said such companies should be considered as priority when tenders for government contracts are awarded.Ali esa al nuaimi another fnc member said the uae government does not forget the citizens and entities which help in developing it. he also pointed to the importance of an ‘incentive law’ for donor companies.Huda al mohair chairperson of the support committee at the emirates human rights association said when asked to extend financial support to the association some companies do not respond.“these companies depend on personal acquaintances to provide support from the budget they make available for society which is limited.”Malzaroonikhaleejtimes.com
