Court bins plea in Modi election affidavit case

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A court in ahmdabad on monday rejected a complaint demanding an fir against former gujarat chief minister and prime minister narendra modi for concealing his marital status in an affidavit filed during the assembly elections in gujarat in 201

The court which had earlier admitted aam aadmi party member nishant verma’s plaint said that though it believed that there was a ground for case against modi the petition had been filed too late and therefore was not maintainable.Verma has lodged a complaint alleging modi had left the column on marital status blank in the written oath filed by him in 2012 from the maninagar assembly constituency in ahmedabad. verma in his plaint had sought registration of an fir and a police probe against modi for “giving a false statement giving false evidence under oath abetting and cheating.”The complaint was lodged soon after modi declared — for the first time--his marital status in his affidavit for contesting lok sabha polls from vododara seat recently. On may 21 the ahmedabad police had told the court that modi had not committed any cognizable offence by suppressing information on his marital status while filing an affidavit along with his nomination papers for contesting elections to maninagar. The police in its report to the additional judicial magistrate first class ahmedabad rural had opined that “there is no commission of offence” citing a supreme court order to buttress its point. the police said that they had conducted an inquiry and had not found anything offensive in the incident. However the court had reserved its order till june 30 after verma’s lawyer k r koshti told the court that he wanted to make further arguments following the cops’ ‘clean chit’ to modi.Mahesh?khaleejtimes.com for more news from khaleej times follow us on facebook at facebook.com/khaleejtimes and on twitter at ?khaleejtime
