The cultural programme of the dubai international holy quran award began on sunday night with a lecture on the types and meanings behind the diverse questions raised in the holy quran.
The 22-lecture programme is part of the 18th edition of the award being held under the patronage of his highness shaikh mohammed bin rashid al maktoum vice-president and prime minister of the uae and ruler of dubai.
The lecture was attended by shaikh majid bin mohammed bin rashid al maktoum chairman of the dubai culture and arts authority senior officials quran contestants and a large audience.
Eminent saudi scholar sheikh saleh al maghamsi said all muslims agree that the holy quran is the last and best holy book revealed from almighty allah to the final and best messenger prophet muhammad (peace be upon him).
“whatsoever related to the quran human or non-human shall be dignified for being associated with this eternally miraculous book.”
Such a sacred relation applies to the dubai international holy quran award and indeed the emirate of dubai where the contest is being held he indicated. “this is because the award is hosting quran memorisers from all over the globe with no single exception or limit.”
Sheikh maghamsi cited a hadith in which prophet muhammad (pbuh) said: ‘fire may not burn the cloth in which quran is’. “this means that the holy quran guards its memorisers and followers against fire in the hereafter.”
Raising a question in the quran does not always mean that an answer is needed. “it may be meant for confirmation exclamation blaming warning drawing attention to something important and so forth” he said citing some verses from the holy quran.
In verse 57/16 almighty allah said: ‘has the time not come for those who have believed that their hearts should become humbly submissive at the remembrance of allah and what has come down of the truth’
“in this verse allah does not ask for an answer. rather he is blaming believers for late repentance.”
In his lecture on day two of the cultural programme of the award egyptian scholar dr shaikh omar abdul kafi explained how the holy quran guides humanity to what is most suitable and gives good tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds.
Today prof dr hameed al nuaimi will talk about the universe in the quran. all lectures are held at the dubai chamber of commerce and industry at 10.30pm after the taraweeh prayers.
