Modest results for Oman Sail optimist team in Bahrain

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman Sail's six-member young optimist team, coached by Sultan al Zadjali, returned with modest results at the at the recently concluded Al Bareh International Regatta in Bahrain.

Young Salim al Alawi emerged as Oman's best sailor with a 16th-place finish at the event, which was held from June 19-23.

More than 90 sailors from across the world took part in the regatta. Oman's Zakariya al Wahaibi was the next best with an 18th place, while Saud al Abri finished 26th.

The other three participants were Ghasan al Hosaini (29th), Mohammed al Qasmi (30th) and Samiha al Riyami (40th). Samiha finished eighth in the girls' category, while Saud, Ghasan and Mohammed took sixth to eight spots in the junior category.

''The Al Bareh International Regatta is an excellent race to drive the best performance out of the young sailors. The team consisted of two sailors, who participated in last year's edition along with four debutants. We were aiming to lay some strong foundations for the kids, so our focus was on setting performance goals rather than actual race results,'' said Zadjali.
