NRAA evaluates 5,000 private Omani documents


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Vehicle registrations in the sultanate till April-end showed a 5.7 per cent increase over the same period last year.

The figures include registrations of new cars, exports and issuance of new registration numbers. The total number of vehicles registered increased to 45,274 at the end of April compared to 42,847 in the same period in 2013.

According to a National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI) report, the growth has  been attributed to new registrations of private cars which has seen a 14.9 per cent rise from 30,607 at the end of April 2013 to 35,160 during the same period this year.

'This includes 8,429 cars registered in January, 8,125 in February, 9,061 in March and 9,545 in April.' Meanwhile, registrations for new government vehicles at the end of April stood at 775 compared to 625 during the same period in 2013, an increase of 24 per cent. 'These include 131 vehicles registered in January, 251 in February, 108 in March and 285 in April 2014.'

Motorcycle registrations also increased by 11.2 per cent at the end of April to reach 456 compared to 410 during the same period in 2013, the NCSI statement said.

Other vehicle registrations declined at the end of April compared to the same period in 2013. 'Commercial vehicle registrations declined by 16.6 per cent, while registration of rental cars fell by 38.5 per cent. During the same period, new registrations for taxis declined by 29.3 per cent while registration of tractors remained stable with 36.'
