PACP head welcomes Royal Decision on price controls in Oman

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Dr Said bin Khamis al Kaabi, chairman of the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) has welcomed His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said's Royal Orders to postpone the Council of Minister's decision on monitoring prices of only 23 staple items.

The Royal Decision was announced last week in a statement issued by the Diwan of Royal Court.

Dr Kaabi held a number of meetings in this regard and affirmed his decision to follow the Royal Orders

''The Royal Orders will be implemented immediately by workers at the authority,'' said Dr Kaabi.

Dr Kaabi also assured consumers that PACP will continue its efforts to monitor the market especially during Ramadan and ensure that the Consumer Protection Law is strictly adhered to.

He also said that PACP is also committed to protect rights of traders as well.

The chairman instructed the administrations of consumer protection in the governorates to intensify inspections of commercial establishments and ensure stability of prices and prevent monopoly in the market, stated a press release.

PACP had recently lifted price curbs on dozens of products with only 23 staple items left under its purview. The authority's decision followed a Council of Ministers meeting this March regarding amendments to the Consumer Protection Law.
