Hack The Climate Manila Winners Celebrate


(MENAFNEditorial) MANILA, PHILIPPINES--Media OutReach--JUNE 26, 2014 -- 'THE INSTIGATORS' comprising of Mic Gutierrez (Center, Holding Sign), Dominic Tuazon (right), and Louis Michael Concepcion (left), winner of June 6-8 first annual Hack-The-Climate competition, celebrated winning a Macbook Pro for developing an app called "Tanaw." Meaning 'to see' in Filipino, Tanaw is a location based game that tracks ecological hotspots and reforestation sites, while helping local communities through eco-touris



This record breaking 58-hour competition drew more than 150 participants, both students and professionals, the majority of whom were hackathon first-timers. The event was organized by Princeton University juniors Mike Lachanski and Jacob Scheer as well as Diego Jose Ramos of RIPPLRZ and was hosted by De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde. This event was notable for its broad focus, allowing developers to build apps related to climate change mitigation, adaptation, resilience, conservation or awareness. Environmental NGOs like Greenpeace, Climate Reality Project and Conservation International sent representatives to help the developers maximize the environmental impact of their apps. Companies like Huawei, SMART, and Microsoft provided hi speed wi-fi, free flowing food and developer tools to create an atmosphere conducive to creative, collaborative coding for a caus
