S. Korea's manufacturing sector contracts in 2012


(MENAFN) A report showed that the manufacturing sector in South Korea contracted in 2012 compared to the previous year on weak demand of technology products, QNA reported. According to a report by the Bank of Korea, output by the manufacturing sector accounted for 50.4 percent of the total economy in 2012, down from 51 percent in 2011. The report showed shipments of mobile phones and liquid crystal displays marked double-digit falls amid a prolonged economic slump in eurozone countries in 2012, according to South Korea's (Yonhap) News Agency. The portion of consumption also increased to 42.2 percent from 41.7 percent, while that of investment fell to 19.5 percent from 20.5 percent, according to the report.
