Kuwait Oil Tanker Company gets new vessel from DSME


(MENAFN- Arab Times) Wait city june 23 (kuna): kuwait oil tanker company marked the delivery of its latest vessel for long-range haulage of oil products from korean daewoo shipbuilding and marine engineering co ltd (dsme). a ceremony was organized on the occasion where chief executive officer sheikh talal al-khalid al-ahmad al-sabah signed the delivery contract along with daewoo representatives in presence of the korean ambassador in kuwait at the company's head office in shuwaikh the company said monday. the new vessel dubbed dasma was built as part of the third phase of the plan aiming to modernize and develop the fleet and has capacity of 108000 metric ton. the ship is 250 meter long 42 meter wide and the distance from bottom of ship to surface of water is 21.5 meters. the vessel comes to a speed of 15.2 knots an hour.

dasma is highly fuel-efficient and the delivery brings up the number of ships in the fleet to 26 vessels of varying capacity and usage. another four vessels are expected to be delivered before end of 2014 to bring the number to 30 the company said. in addition to securing a strategic means of transport for crude oil and oil products the company also aims to consolidate its 2030 plan to increase quality and efficiency of service and to provide job opportunities for nationals while maintaining good repute abroad. new vessels are built according to the latest in design to keep up with the latest specifications and standards the report said adding the criteria include environment-related guidelines and conformity to regulations expected to be imposed on the sector in the future.

the new vessels the company is building are the most environment-friendly in their class and are equipped with equipment to address gas emissions to treat sulfur and nitrogen oxides and to curb co2 emissions. in terms of security the company said the vessels come with the highest technical standards and are equipped with anti-piracy gear. the fourth phase for fleet overhaul is set to start at end of 2014 and the plan is to build two giant gas tankers to replace the company's mitlaa and gurain which would complete 25 years in operation by 2017-2018. the company building the new vessels daewoo is the second largest shipbuilder in the world and one of the 'big three' shipbuilders of south korea.
