Facebook romance turns into "blackmail" as girl's parents reject proposal


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The boy is is accused of blackmailing the girl by asking her to continue with their relationship or face having her photographs circulated on facebook.

an iranian student allegedly threatened to malign his ex-girlfriend on a social networking site after she broke up with him the court of first instance heard on sunday.

the 22-year-old is believed to have proposed to the 17-year-old girl also an iranian and became very upset and angry when her parents turned him down.

the student did not show up in court where he is accused of blackmailing the teen by asking her to continue with their relationship or face having her photographs circulated on facebook.

he also allegedly abused her on the phone and sent her abusive text messages.

the girl told investigators that she became acquainted with the student on facebook. they became close and then thought of getting engaged.

however the girl’s mother rejected the idea telling her that she was still young and he was unsuitable for her.

the girl told investigators that her mother told her to sever all links with the student.

the student did not take it kindly and began harassing her since 2013.

“he threatened that he would circulate my photos on the internet and would harm my reputation if i stopped talking to him or did not go out with him” she said.

the ex-boyfriend kept sending her abusive and threatening messages for about five months. she tried to ignore him until march when she could not take it anymore and filed a complaint at the jebel ali police station.

translations of the abusive text messages were tabled by public prosecution as evidence.
