Saudi imports 780.000 tons of wheat


(MENAFN) Saudi Arabia has recently purchased 780.000 tons of hard and soft wheat in a tender which shipment is due the period from September 10 to November 30, according to Arab News. The kingdom bought 660.000 tons of hard wheat and 120.000 tons of soft wheat. The European Union, North and South America and Australia at the sellers' option are the accepted origins for the purchase. Saudi Arabia has become a major importer of hard and soft wheat since abandoning plans for self-sufficiency in wheat in 2008 as farming in the desert strained water supplies.
