(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The number of Syrian refugees in Jordan since the conflict began in their country in March 2011 reached around 645,000, the Jordanian refugees affairs department said Sunday.
It said in a statement that 99,200 Syrian refugees were located in camps in different parts of Jordan, while 85,186 refugees were living in Al-Azraq camp in northern Amman and Al-Zaatari in the north of the country, while others scattered in Jordan.
The department noted that 597 Syrian refugees have crossed the borders yesterday.
It urged the humanitarian organizations and donor countries to honor their pledges to Jordan, "which cannot bear burdens of refugees without international assistance," to provide services for the growing number of refugees.
Official statistics showed total number of Syrian refugees at some 1.4 million, half of them sought refuge in Jordan since the crisis broke out in Syria in 2011 while the rest were already living in Jordan.
