the human dimension continued to aggravate as the number of registered displaced people swelled to over 300000.

the number of people who have fled the tribal area has risen to 307501 officials said on saturday.

according to the ispr air strikes against militants have been extended to khyber agency. “the ground offensive will begin as soon as the evacuation process is completed” an official said.

the military operation against militants in north waziristan was launched on june 15 with air strikes on their hideouts. security officials claimed that over 200 local and foreign militants had been killed in the bombings.

fata additional chief secretary arbab arif said at a press briefing here that the curfew would be relaxed on sunday to ensure evacuation of civilians.

“this is a big human tragedy especially for those who have fled their homes for the sake of the country” he said.

since wednesday when a curfew was relaxed in north waziristan 25242 families have left the area and registered at checkpoints along the way said arbab arif.

the figure includes 62000 people who left the area of operations before june 18 he added saying that displaced families were provided with food drinks.

the administration has established displaced persons camps but few have showed up there preferring to stay with relatives or in rented houses around the border town of bannu he said.

meanwhile the army said in a statement that soldiers of all ranks would donate a day’s worth of pay and food rations to help the displaced families.

the ispr said 30 terrorists were killed in targeted strikes by jets in khyber and north waziristan agencies in the small hours of saturday.

jets destroyed two hideouts close to the afghan border in khyber agency killing 10 terrorists it said.

three hideouts were destroyed in hassu khel area of north waziristan killing 20 terrorists.

meanwhile in a statement fata disaster management authority clarified that prime minister nawaz sharif has directed all departments to make every effort to facilitate the idps.

the fdma said about 2000 tents have been installed at the idps camp at bannu but most of the families have preferred living with their relatives in the settled areas of bannu tank lakki and d.i. khan.

moreover to provide healthcare facilities to the displaced population mobile health units have been set up while five ambulances have been put on red alert.

so far around 64000 children have been vaccinated against polio for the first time.

the idps registration process has also been expedited with 20 registration desks.

a financial assistance of rs12000 is being given to each registered family.

on the directives of the prime minister the minister for safron kpk governor and fdma have arranged payment of a monthly food assistance of rs7000 to each dislocated family.
