(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) The arab suspect pretended to be an innocent bystander after the crime: police

the dubai police’s anti-crime department has arrested an arab for allegedly picking pockets in markets with a razor blade.

major-general khalil ibrahim al masouri assistant commander-in-chief of dubai police for criminal investigation affairs said the man’s modus operandi was to edge close to men in crowded markets slash their pockets with a blade and steal their wallets and mobile phones.

to add insult to the injury he would then pretend to be an innocent bystander and tell the people he had found that their pockets had been slashed.

after receiving three complaints within a short time the police set a trap for the slasher and caught him in the act.

major-general al masouriu said they found a number of razor blades in the man’s possession. initially he tried to deny the crimes saying he used the blades to shave.

however one of the victims identified him. he told the police that while he was busy shopping the man accosted him and told him his pocket had been slashed.

he put his hand inside only to find both his money and mobile gone. the man too quickly disappeared in the crowd .

two teens arrested

police also arrested two teenagers for forcible theft and assault. they were said to have been responsible for 29 such cases.

one of them a 19-year-old had 11 complaints lodged against him at the qusais police station for cases ranging from theft on roads from cars and groceries to vandalism and assault.

he had a criminal record since he was 15 and was arrested while trying to break into a shop at night.

the teen’s friend an 18-year-old was also involved in forcible theft assault arson and drug use.

he too is said to have had a criminal record from the age of 15.
