Armed men loot thousands of rials from moneyexchange staff in Oman

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Gun-wielding robbers snatched thousands of rials from money exchange employees in the wilayat of Buraimi on Sunday morning.

According to an eyewitness, the incident took place at around 11am. ''The employees were waylaid when they left the exchange to deposit the previous day's earnings in a bank. It seems that the robbers knew about the employees' movements and were waiting for them to step out with the money.''

The eyewitness added that the robbers had arrived in two cars, one of which had been stolen.

''The robbers threatened the employees and asked them to part with the bag containing the money. The employees were attacked when they resisted.

''Before fleeing with the bag, the robbers set one of the vehicles on fire in an apparent bid to divert the attention of passersby. The vehicle which was set on fire is said to be the one they had stolen.''

Buraimi police confirmed the incident and said that investigations have been launched.

Muscat Daily could not reach executives of the money exchange for comments despite repeated attempts.
