Kerry meets Jordan's Judeh on Mideast issues

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) US Secretary of State John Kerry and Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh discussed on Sunday evening the bilateral ties and the conflicts in Syria and Iraq. The talks also dealt with the stalled Palestinian-Israeli peace talks, according to a statement by the Jordanian Foreign Ministry. The two sides highlighted the urgency of the international community joining forces against the security threats facing Iraq, Syria and the Middle East region at large. Kerry affirmed the US appreciation for, and support to, the pivotal role of Jordan, under King Abdullah II, in stabilizing the region and promoting peace and moderation, the statement said. On his part, Judeh called on the conflicting parties in Iraq to work for building a genuine national consensus through the political means. On Syria, Judeh reaffirmed Jordan's stance calling for a substantive dialogue, involving all parties, to find a peaceful, mutually-acceptable solution to the crisis and maintain the national unity and territorial integrity of the country, the statement said. Regarding the Palestinian-Israeli peace talks, Judeh and Kerry discussed the obstacles facing these talks and the ways to bring the two sides back to the negotiating table. Judeh noted that the failure of the two-state solution to materialize the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state is the cause of instability in the region which poses risk to the international peace and security. Earlier this evening Kerry arrived here from Cairo as part of a trip that will take him to Brussels and Paris.
