(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Oul june 22 (qna) - south korean companies ranked no. 1 in the global home appliances and shipbuilding industries last year and were among the world's top 10 in seven other sectors a local market researcher said sunday.
samsung electronics the country's biggest family-run conglomerate came on top in household appliances like tvs monitors and white goods followed by another south korean firm lg electronics according to ceo score. the researcher which tracks corporate management data based its results on global sales.
samsung's sales of home appliances last year came to us$48.2 billion according to the data and lg electronics recorded $36 billion.
in shipbuilding hyundai heavy industries took the top spot with $51.9 billion.
other industries where south korean companies ranked in the top 10 included it automobiles steel shipbuilding machineries shipping and communications the data showed.
samsung electronics was on the list for smartphones and semiconductors while posco placed no. 2 in the steel industry.
for automobiles hyundai motor and its sister company kia came in 10th in the auto industry although they ranked 5th in volume of car sales. (qna)
