(MENAFN- Arab News) As part of sadara chemical company's (sadara) commitment to the people of saudi arabia and specifically to the jubail community the company has once again teamed up with the jubail volunteering club (jvc) to launch the ramadan food basket program for 2014. this program which is sponsored by sadara aims to provide 800 needy families in the jubail area with nutritious food items in the days leading up to the holy month of ramadan.

approximately 100 men and women from sadara and 50 volunteers from the jvc volunteered their time on saturday (june 21) to pack the food boxes. the volunteers were joined by ziad sami al-labban ceo of sadara raed al-rabeh vp of industrial relations at sadara and abdulaziz almisned gm rc general services.

altogether the sadara and jvc volunteers handled more than 122000 food items packing them into 800 food baskets. each eligible family will receive one basket containing more than 100 food items and weighing nearly 80 kg. these food baskets were delivered to five charitable societies in jubail. in total the sadara and jvc volunteers racked up more than 2500 volunteer hours in support of the program.

ziad al-labban sadara's ceo said the company was deeply committed to supporting the community of jubail where sadara's manufacturing facilities will be located.

'we have a csr program at sadara which focuses on being a caring neighbor through several activities and provides opportunities to enhance the prosperity and well-being of our neighbors in jubail" al-labban said.

he added: 'this volunteering activity by sadara employees during their weekend highlights the depth of our commitment to provide assistance to needy families."

the ramadan food basket program is an important social welfare program sponsored by sadara in partnership with the social services department of the royal commission for jubail and yanbu. the jvc is part of the royal commission's social services division.
