New Oman exhibition centre to begin operations in 2016

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Once ready, the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre (OCEC) will be able to accommodate 92 per cent of the world's ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association) meetings. Omran on Thursday organised a visit to the site for members of the media to showcase the progress of work ahead of the 2016 opening of the first phase.

Trevor McCartney, general manager, OCEC, said, ''We'll be able to accommodate 92 per cent of the world's ICCA meetings in this venue. Most meetings have under 2,500 delegates.

With a planned 1,000 rooms on site, plus various other new hotels coming up in Muscat, we are confident to be able to deliver world class services to delegates. We've already conducted several site visits with leading medical, oil and gas and scientific-related specialists to showcase the benefits of staging their congresses at this spectacular setting.''

He added that these opportunities would not have been possible without the government's vision to develop the world class OCEC capable of hosting these types of numbers and meeting the highly technical demands required for such events.

''We have been working in partnership with Omran, the Ministry of Tourism and other key stakeholders in introducing the world to Oman and as the new hub for major international conventions, meetings and business events. A number of international and regional organisations have already expressed a strong desire to hold future events in Muscat.''

McCartney added, ''OCEC is one of the few convention centres in the world to be developed within a fully-integrated convention precinct, supported by four hotels - a five star, two four star and a three star, totaling 1,000 rooms, a shopping mall and commercial business park. It is only four kilometres from Muscat International Airport. The OCEC is a world-class purpose built convention and exhibition centre with flexible space and the very latest in communications and audio visual technology for conferences, exhibitions, meetings, weddings and special events.''
