Kuwait- Info. Min. "goes by the book" regarding media trespasses - official

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Ministry of Information, in acquitting its normal duties, sticks strictly to the applied laws regarding its oversight functions of the media, said a ministry official in a press statement on Saturday. The ministry furthermore does not exercise preemptive censorship over the media as it has total respect for the freedom of expression as consecrated in Kuwaiti laws as clearly evident in article 36 of the constitution which guarantees all citizens the right of free speech, said the ministry's Assistant Undersecretary for Media Affairs Munira Al-Huaidi. However, she said should any entity, such as a newpaper or a satellite radio or TV station overstep its legal bounds in carrying out its normal functions, the ministry will step in to apply the press laws against it by adjudicating this entity in a court of law. She appealed to the local media to exercise maximum caution when dealing with sensitive issues so that to preserve the national unity as well as the country's regional and international reputation at a time when the region Kuwait is in suffers from socio-political turbulence.
