Germany pledges fast aid to Tunisia

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) German Chancellor Angela Merkel has vowed to provide fast-track aid to Tunisia in order to help this north African country protect its borders with its unrest-hit neighbor Libya. Speaking at a joint news conference with visiting Tunisian Prime Minister Mehdi Jomaa, Merkel said German aid includes training for Tunisian agencies involved as well as border protection equipment. She said the current unstable situation in Libya requires efforts to fight terrorism in order to prevent terrorists from moving to the Tunisian soil and that's why Germany would give fast help to Tunisia. On his part, the Tunisian prime minister stressed the necessity of promoting cooperation between his country and the European Union (EU), particularly Germany, in the fight against terrorism. "We are partners in the fight against terrorism and we are working together to fight it and protect the Tunisian border from terrorist infiltrations," he said. Jomaa took the opportunity of his visit to Berlin to invite German travel agents and tourists to visit his country given that the security situation was safe there. The Tunisian premier arrived here earlier in the day for an official visit to Germany.
