(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Buoyed by victory in the previous round of the British GT Championship at Silverstone, Oman Racing Team's (ORT) Ahmad al Harthy and Michael Caine will be high on confidence when they compete in the fifth and sixth rounds at the Snetterton 300 Circuit in Norfolk on June 21-22.

The duo, currently ranked third in the championship's standings, is only 4.5 points shy of current series leaders Alexander Sims and Marco Attard of Ecurie Ecosse. Driving their Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3, the ORT drivers, who had claimed victory in the first race of the year at Oulton Park, are enjoying a successful run this season and hope to maintain the winning rhythm.

''We can't wait to be back in acon at Snetterton,'' Ahmad said. ''It has been a fantastic year so far for us in British GT. After the Silverstone win, we have shown how competitive we can be in endurance races as well as in the shorter 60-minute races.''

Ahmad, the Muscat-based racer, will return to Snetterton, a venue where he achieved his debut win last year as teammate to Caine at the wheel of a Porsche 997 GT3.

''Silverstone was definitely our biggest and best win yet, and we are quicker and more competitive every time we are in the car,'' the Omani racer said. ''To be in the top three of the championship as we reach the halfway point of the season is exactly where we need to be and where we hoped we would be.''

As past winner at the 4.78km track, hopes are realistically high for ORT for two strong performances in Sunday's pair of one-hour contests. After Snetterton, four races will remain in the 2014 British GT season. The 32 year old Ahmad added, ''This is an extremely important part of the season. We have managed to score in each race so far and it is vital to keep that run going. Any lost ground at this stage could have a big impact. Having won at Snetterton last year, it only adds to our confidence, knowing that we can be competitive.''

Following two 60-minute free practice sessions on June 21, qualifying for rounds five and six will be held later in the evening, followed by races on Jun
