(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) In honour of World Blood Donor Day organised by the World Health Organization (WHO), Qurum Business Group (QBG) organised a blood drive at the company's headquarters to raise much-needed safe blood supplies for the Ministry of Health's blood banks.
Employees from all companies in QBG donated 48 pints of blood to help save lives across the sultanate. This year's theme Safe blood for saving mothers' aims to increase awareness of the need for blood supplies during delivery and after childbirth to prevent maternal deaths and help newborns take their first breaths safely.
''As an active member of the community, QBG is a regular contributor to deserving causes. The blood donated will have a significant and positive impact on the lives of others because fresh supplies can only come from volunteers, unlike most treatments that can be manufactured,'' said Sheikh Abdulaziz al Hosni, vice-chairman and president of QBG. ''We are proud of our employees for giving their time and their blood to make a real difference to the community.''
Mohammed al Bahrani, administration and PR manager at QBG, described the experience as a privilege and incredibly rewarding. He said, ''Donating blood is quite literally a gift of life and the most valuable gift one person can give another. I have always appreciated the importance of donating blood but can now honestly say that after this experience, it is undervalued and all of us should share the health we enjoy to enhance the quality of life and wellbeing of others.''
This is the 11th anniversary of World Blood Donor Day and each year over 107mn blood donations are collected around the world. Each pint of blood can be split into four components to treat a variety of conditions and improve the quality of life for up to three people per donati
