(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) The Muscat International Airport and Salalah Airport have registered strong growth in year-to-date aircraft movements and passenger numbers by the end of April 2014. 

According to a bulletin issued by the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI), the total number of domestic and international flights at Muscat International Airport increased by 3.5 per cent reaching 26,998 compared to 26,079 recorded during the same period in 2013.

'The number of passengers till the end of April 2014 reached 2.95mn compared to 2.73mn during the same period in 2013, an increase of 8.1 per cent.'

The total number of international flights till the end of April 2014 reached 23,922 compared to 23,312 during the same period in 2013, an increase of 2.6 per cent while the total number of domestic flights reached 3,076, an increase of 11.2 per cent compared to 2,767 flights during  the same period in 2013.

Air traffic movement figures showed that the total number of flight landings by the end of April 2014 increased to 11,960 compared to 11,656 during the same period last year. 'Take-off flights also increased to 11,962 during the same period compared to 11,656 in 2013.'

Meanwhile, the total number of international arrivals, departures and transit passengers recorded at Muscat airport increased by eight per cent, reaching 2.69mn by the end of April 2014, compared to 2.49mn during the same period in 2013. 'This includes 1.35mn arrivals, 1.32mn departures and 13,085 transit passengers.'

The NCSI bulletin stated that domestic and international traffic movements at Salalah Airport also witnessed strong growth by the end of April 2014.

The total number of domestic and international flights reached 2,662 compared to 1,880 during the same period in 2013, an annual growth of 41.6 per cent. Meanwhile, the total number of domestic and international passengers recorded an increase of 18.9 per cent, reaching 257,517 compared to 216,534 during the same period in 2013.
