Obama Meets National Security Team


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Shington june 17 (qna) - us president barack obama met with the national security council team late monday to discuss the situation in iraq.

he has not yet made a decision regarding a military strike against the islamic state of iraq and al-sham (daash) militants a senior administration official told the (cnn).



obama will continue to consult with his team "in the days to come" according to a white house statement.

on monday multiple us officials told the cnn that the obama administration is considering several military options such as unarmed surveillance flights increased intelligence-gathering and airstrikes.

us officials have said sending ground troops to iraq isn't an option.



according to a senior military official another option under consideration by the obama administration is increasing the modest number of us military advisers and trainers stationed at the us embassy compound in baghdad.

expanding training programs inside and outside of iraq could be another option a senior administration official said.



the united states is sending about 275 troops to iraq to support its embassy in baghdad the white house said in a notification to congress.

regarding a military cooperation with iran us sources confirmed that there is no intention for military cooperation with iran in iraq.

spokesman for us department of defense said there was no plans to consult with iran on military movements inside iraq. (qna)
