(MENAFN) China's commerce ministry said that direct investment by South Korea into the country surged 87.9 percent in the January-May period of 2014 over a year earlier, QNA reported. According to South Korea's News Agency (Yonhap), China's foreign direct investment (FDI) stood at USD48.9 billion in the five-month period, excluding banking, securities, insurance and other financial sectors, up 2.8 percent. However, direct investment by Japanese firms during the cited period soared 42.2 percent on year, according to the ministry's spokesman. "The continued deterioration of political relations between China and Japan is having an impact on bilateral trade and this impact is more obvious in investment cooperation," he added.
