(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) With the aim of encouraging adventure tourism in the country, Omran, in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism, is planning to come up with a special training programme for enthusiasts.
According to Wael al Lawati, CEO, Omran, there are many people who are interested in adventure sports in Oman but avoid going for them because they don't know to handle emergency situations.
''There are many spots in Oman which are perfect for adventure tourism. But people often do not visit them, either because they have encountered a problem at such places earlier, or do not have enough information on how to go about it.
''Many are also not aware about how to use survival kits. So the idea is to make people aware and make their visits safe and enjoyable as far as possible,'' said Lawati.
The training programme will provide a complete guide on aspects related to adventure tourism, will teach participants to deal with risks and also train them in basic rescue operations.
Besides training enthusiasts, efforts are also being made to identify more recreational spots across the sultanate, said Lawati.
''We are trying to identify more recreational spots keeping in mind the safety and security of visitors. Oman has a huge natural wealth.
''People can enjoy it if we put in a little effort. Tourists should be provided with proper dining options and survival kits in such areas and above all, they should have a sense of safety when they travel,'' he added
