(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said Monday it recently delivered, in collaboration with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC), emergency food rations for over 90,000 displaced people in the northern governorate of Aleppo.
The humanitarian aid was delivered to the victims of the conflict on the frontlines and in government-held areas in the governorate, according to a statement by the ICRC delegation in Damascus.
Last Monday, the ICRC sent seven trucks carrying food aid and household items and blankets to 30,000 residents of Urum town, to the west of Aleppo city, spokesman of the ICRC delegation Ralph Al Hage said.
The delivery of the assistance in the last two weeks came after months of negotiations with the warring parties in Syria as well the SARC and in the wake of a UN Security Council resolution compelling the various parties to cooperate with the aid agencies.
Aleppo bore the brunt of the air attacks by the regime forces which have escalated since last July and inflict heavy human and material damage.
Attacks by powder kegs have reportedly claimed 25 lives in Al-Sukkari district of the city this midday besides dozens of injured people.
