Engineers among 10 drown in bid to beat Gujarat heat


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) With monsoon around the corner gujarat witnessed a black sunday in this scorching summer with as many as four drowning incidents in a single day claiming 10 lives including three children.

four engineers had a watery grave after being swept away by a high tide at the suvali beach near surat in south gujarat. all four were working with construction company larsen & toubro.

the quartet had left their hotel in hajira for a sunday fun trip to the beach and were even warned by the local people about the high tide but young men ventured into the danger zone only to be swept away.

in rajkot three poor boys all aged nine years drowned in a pond on the outskirts of the engineering city. the incident took place at 5pm when the trio entered the pond to take bath after playing for a couple of hours but were stuck in the mud.

in the third incident two teenagers who wanted to take bath in a narrow canal in harij village in northern patan district were suffocated to death when sudden release of water stored in the gigantic narmada dam flooded the canal.

a 24-year-old man also went missing in the stormy arabian sea at tithal near valsad in south gujarat where he had gone for a picnic at the beautiful beach known for its black sand.
