India's inflation hits 6.01 percent in May

(MENAFN) Government data showed that India's wholesale prices-based inflation has accelerated to a five-month high in May, hitting 6.01 percent, led by higher food and fuel prices, Xinhua reported. According to data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, May's figures were much higher than the 5.20 percent registered in April. Fuel and power inflation rose to 10.53 percent due to 14.21 percent jump in diesel prices over a year during the month under review, while petrol prices increased 12.28 percent. Food inflation jumped to 9.50 percent, as potato prices rose to 31.44 percent. Fruits became higher by 19.40 percent from a year ago, while the milk price soared by 9.57 percent. Some economists expected price pattern to be unstable in the next few months due to uncertainty over monsoon rains and outlook for crops.
