Pakistan appoints permanent representative at Irena HQ

pakistan’s ambassador to the uae asif durrani presented his credentials as permanent representative of pakistan to the international renewable energy agency (irena) to director-general adnan z. amin at a special ceremony at irena headquarters in abu dhabi on saturday.

on the occasion ambassador durrani reiterated pakistan’s full support for the objectives and initiatives of irena stating that mainstreaming renewable energy remains a priority for pakistan.

he added that the pakistan government’s focus is on diversifying energy resources which include hydropower natural gas coal and nuclear energy besides the renewables such as solar wind and biomass energy to meet the growing energy demands of the country.

“pakistan is blessed with an abundance of renewable energy potential and would seek irena’s support in efforts to harness these sources” durrani said.

adnan amin said that the appointment of pakistan’s permanent representative would ensure enhanced collaboration between pakistan and irena not only in policy and technology development but also lead to a partnership towards greater use of renewable energy as an indigenous clean and abundant resource.
