Storm scare over, only scattered rainfall likely in Oman

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The threat from tropical storm Nanauk over the Arabian Sea has passed and Oman may only experience its indirect impact in the form of scattered rainfall in some parts.

A meeting the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) held on Saturday under its chairman Dr Mohammed al Za'abi to discuss the ongoing weather conditions in the Arabian Sea and the threat posed by Nanauk, concluded that there would be no direct effect on Oman.

The Directorate General of Meteorology and Air Navigation (DGMAN) has said there are chances of scattered rainfall over South Sharqiyah, Al Wusta and the Al Hajar mountains in the next 24 hours. Southern and central parts of Oman will likely see a cloud cover, with the possibility of scattered rains and thunderstorms. The sea state was expected to be rough with wave heights reaching three to five metres.

A senior DGMAN official said, ''The chance of a tropical storm is finally over, according to our forecasts. There are clouds over Oman, but by the next 24 hours they will disappear. There is also a small depression and low pressure, which is nothing to be concerned about. The clouds will vanish soon and there will be hardly any rains.''

The Ministry of Health stated that a meeting was held on Thursday at the Crisis and Emergency Management Centre to review the tropical weather formation and the preparedness to deal with its likely effects. A similar meeting was also conducted by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to ensure stocks of consumable commodities and fuel.
