lee myung-joo has promised to give his 100 per cent to al ain after the south korean international was officially unveiled by the club late on wednesday night.
lee myung-joo arrived from k league club pohang steelers and was unveiled along with loan signing rashid essa who joined from al wasl for one season. midfielder lee myung-joo has signed a three-year deal with the garden city club after successfully passing a medical. lee will don the no.29 jersey.
al ain are bolstering their squad as they prepare to reclaim the arabian gulf league as well as a tough two-legged quarter-final against saudi arabia’s al ittihad in the afc champions league. al ain said that midfielder rashid essa’s loan spell could be extended at the end of the season. rashid essa will don the no.24 jersey.“i’m pleased to join al ain who are the most successful club in the uae. i want to make a good impression at al ain and will give my 100 percent” lee myung-joo said.
lee replaces australian alex brosque as al ain’s asian player. he rose through the junior ranks at pohang steelers and graduated to the first team in 2012. he scored 17 goals in 80 appearances. he made nine appearances for the koreanepublic team but was omitted for the world cup in brazil. and lee is also hoping that a good showing with al ain will pave the way for a return to the korean republic team. “if i perform well with al ain like i did with pohang steelers then there is a good chance of returning to the national team” lee added.
but first up he said was to get acclimatised to the conditions here. “i have to get used to the conditions and the football here in the uae. i also have to integrate well into the al ain team” he said.
meanwhile rashid essa said that he would give his best for his new club. “i want to thank al ain for the faith shown in me and i want to repay that faith. it will be a new challenge but one i’m ready for. i want to help al ain do well especially in the afc champions league” said rashid essa.
meanwhile al ain will have their pre-season training camp in turkey from july 4 to 19. they will play a few friendly matches there before returning to the uae on july 20. they will then be involved in the al ain international football friendly championship. the players will then spend eid before regrouping for the second phase of their pre-season training camp which will be held in austria. they are slated to play three friendlies.
