(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) Songs folk dances family gatherings cultural events and distribution of sweets marked hag al lailah to mark the middle of shaaban month.

the celebrations will continue into friday with some malls planning a range of activities.

dar al nadwa and calligraphy square at heart of sharjah was the hub of activity in the afternoon. a variety of heritage and awareness activities with songs and folklore dances were held.

“hag al laila celebrations have a great significance in the uae as this night serves to promote traditions and customs and remind children and parents of ramadan. our celebration is in line with our eagerness to mark social and heritage occasions and to preserve emirati traditions and instil them in the hearts and souls of the young generation” said yousif al mutawa manager of heart of sharjah.

he said celebrations will contribute to raising public awareness of the historical and heritage value of this area which is home to a multitude of historical landmarks and heritage sites that tell the story of sharjah’s prosperity for long decades while reflecting the richness of the uae’s heritage and culture.

different departments of the dubai municipality organised a range of activities to mark the event. the corporate marketing and relations department distributed candy bags gifts sweets and traditional food to all employees in the main building of the municipality.

a delegation of the food control department led by khalid mohamed sherif paid a visit to the pediatric section at latifa hospital and distributed surprise gifts to children in the hospital and a delegation of the waste management department conducted a visit to the dubai autism center and distributed candy bags and sweets.

today children’s city is planning a range of activities and competitions for children of all nationalities. shaikha al reesi acting head of children’s city said “the programmes include traditional guest greeting traditional band candies distribution photo shooting corner sing with “khossa bossa” characters al-jefeer marathon big candy bag contest and announcing the best candy bag.”
