Qatar Hails Efforts of UN Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Neva june 13 (qna) - the state of qatar has lauded efforts being made by the un special rapporteur on violence against women its causes and consequences ms rashida manjoo in carrying out her mandate and preparing her report for the 26th session of the human rights council in geneva ( item 3) which currently being held here on june 10-27.



this came in a speech ms. noor ibrahim al sada the second secretary at the permanent mission of qatar to the united nations office in geneva delivered during the interactive dialogue with ms manjoo here late last night.



the report focused on the developments of the united nations' activities related to violence against women its causes and consequences in the past twenty years said ms. noor ibrahim adding" we seize this opportunity to pay tribute to all efforts that have been made in the framework of the un system and still continuing to address all practices that constitute a violence against women".



though a set of treaties resolutions and declarations were adopted with a view to banning violence against women and several mechanisms made to eliminate violence's causes and its consequences the qatari senior official pointed out that violence against women is still committed by various forms and causes and differ from one country to another and from one culture to another.



qatari official noted that the strengthening of the legislative and judicial frameworks of the national legal system would eliminate many of the practices that are classified in the framework of the causes of violence against women. ms. noor ibrahim al sada the second secretary at the permanent mission of qatar to the united nations office in geneva has reiterated that adhering to international standards for the elimination of violence against women should be confined that the states comply to its pledges that you agreed upon during the ratification of international conventions.



elabortating she said that at the national level the state of qatar has always been keen to take national measures to create a suitable atmosphere for woman as a key partner in the national development process stressing that the promotion of the women is linked to the development process in all vital sectors in the country especially in the health educational and economic



sectors.therefore all plans set for the development of those sectors included explicit goals to enhance rendering services to women and her participation in all levels ms noor said.





furthermore she asserted that the qatar foundation for the protection of children and women is working to implement a strategy aiming at combating this practice through preventive programmes and awareness and guidance as well as to provide social physical psychological and health services to the victims of violence in addition to the judicial assistance to provide protection for them and ensure preventing impunity of perpetrators and holding the perpetrators accountable.(end)
