Qatar Emphasizes Importance of Interconnection Between Rule of Law Crime Prevention Human Rights and Development


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) W york june 11 (qna) - qatar's permanent delegation to the united nations (un) has organized a high level meeting on the sidelines of the un general assembly high-level meeting on the contributions of human rights and the rule of law to the post 2015 development plan.

the meeting which was organized in collaboration with the thai land permanent delegation italy permanent delegation and the un office on drugs and crime (unodc) discussed the topic of (the rule of law crime prevention and criminal justice within the framework of the united nations post 2015 development plan devote consecration of human rights approach for all.

the meeting also shed light on the united nations 13th conference and promoting a coherent approach for developing the post 2015 development plan in addition to the close connection between the rule of law crime prevention and criminal justice human rights and sustainable development.

he the permanent representative of the state of qatar to the un sheikha alya ahmed bin saif al-thani in the opening statement emphasized the importance of close interconnection between the rule of law crime prevention criminal justice human rights and sustainable development which reinforce one another and should be an integral part of the post 2015 development plan.

the coordinator-general of the organizing preparatory committee of the un 13 conference on crime prevention and criminal justice abdullah dhaen al-kuwari participated as a key speaker at the high-level meeting.

in his remarks al-kuwari stressed the importance of holding the 13th conference in the state of qatar. "this conference comes at a time when the international community is facing great challenges in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice" he said.

he stressed the need for developing legal and legislative systems to effectively address the traditional as well as modern crimes and enabling criminal justice systems to operate efficiently and effectively in accordance with the united nations standards and norms.

among the participants in the high level meeting were un deputy secretary-general jan eliasson un secretary-general's special adviser on post-2015 development plan amina mohammed and un assistant secretary-general for human rights ivan simonovic. (qna)
