Kuwiat- Court writ to PM said illegal 4 TV shows suspended

(MENAFN- Arab Times) Kuwait city june 4 (kuna): his highness the prime minister's diwan said here on wednesday that the writ it received on monday from the court upon request from sheikh ahmad fahad al- ahmad al-sabah does not have any legal basis nor does it include any legal effect or obligation for his highness the premier. even the ultimatum included in the document for delivering the reports is so strange that it is ungrounded illegal and illogical the diwan said in a statement.

his highness the premier handed all recordings presented by sheikh ahmad fahad al- ahmad al-sabah to the public prosecution on april 17 2014 and the entire case is now under investigation it said recalling that a ban was ordered by the public prosecutor's office on the publication of relevant investigations.

he also appreciates and bears in mind the allegiance he had sworn and the trust he gained from his highness the amir as well as the kuwaiti people's trust in order to preclude any claims of covering up or procrastination in taking legal action against anybody who may try to undermine kuwait's security stability and national unity it added.

in this context his highness the premier urged anyone who has any information documents or evidence pertinent to the tape case or to any other case to present them to the public prosecutor's office immediately in line with the penal code the diwan pointed out.

the ministry of information has decided to ask the public prosecutor to order a number of private sector tv stations to suspend some of their programs for four days beginning wednesday said a ministry statement. the suspension order is in keeping with an existing law no. 61 for 2007 regarding government overseeing of the media said the statement.

the tv programs in question have been suspended because they dealt with information having to do with case no. 1241 for 2013 which is being looked into by the public prosecutor the latter having ordered all media to refrain from discussing this case.

a number of newspapers have been referred to the public prosecutor because they violated the prosecutor's gag order regarding this case. the case no. 1241 for 2013 is currently in the hands of the public prosecutor pending its ultimate resolution said the statement. the statement urged all media to abide by ministry instructions without fail and anyone who did not would be accountable before a court of law.
